You’ve heard of modern wedding style. You’ve heard of boho wedding style. But have you heard of modern boho wedding style? (You might have even heard it called “moho”.) If you have, you’ll know how gorgeous an aesthetic it is. If you haven’t, you’re about to fall in love…

We were thrilled to work with Jasmin and Gregg on their stunning modern boho wedding at stellar Scottish wedding venue The Cowshed Crail last September. They wanted a relaxed celebration with their closest friends and family, and to wow and treat their guests with a beautiful aesthetic and delicious food. Sounds dreamy, right? It’s a yes from us!

Jasmin and Gregg’s Modern Boho Wedding

For this wedding day, we went for a minimalist approach to the styling. (Minimalist in terms of refinement; not in terms of effort and impact!) The late summer palette was bursting full of warm rusts, apricots and dusty pinks, and included light neutral tones to keep it fresh. To add even more depth, we used this palette in lots of textures and fabrics across the space, and accented it with candles for a warm, welcoming feel.

Jasmin and Gregg wanted beautiful wow moments throughout the space, so we worked on creating pockets of delight everywhere you turned. However, we wanted all of these to feel cohesive, rather than competing, and so we kept them all elegant and refined so as not to overwhelm. The lighter colour palette helped here too, with the more vibrant pinks and purples acting as a thread running through it all and tying it all together.

Meadow-like florals

Another stand out feature of this modern boho wedding was the florals, created by the super talented Floral Menagerie. The flowers were meadow-inspired: soft and abundant, wild yet elegant. Lisa created several arrangements which, when dotted around the venue and accompanying each ‘moment’ throughout the space, also helped tie the day together perfectly.  At the top of the aisle, Jasmin and Gregg married in front of an artful bough of fabric, flanked by two asymmetrical arrangements bursting with blooms and foliage which echoed the bouquets tied to the end of the rows.

Whilst we’re on the subject of bouquets, let’s talk about Jasmin and her bridesmaids’ looks, shall we?! Jasmin wowed in a long-sleeved, embellished wedding dress which glinted beautifully in the late summer sun. With her blonde waves and headband, she was a vision of modern boho wedding beauty. Her bridesmaids similarly shimmered in dusky pink dresses with silky skirts and chiffon-y tops. In the evening, Jasmin changed to a boat neck A-Line dress and a stunning wavy ponytail, so she could dance the night away!

Back to the flowers and styling at this modern boho wedding: at the reception, Lisa from Floral Menagerie had also adorned the moongate backdrop with a crescent of ethereal flowers, acting as the crown jewel of the top table set up (and beautifully echoing Jasmin’s headband). Small vases filled with beautiful blooms lined the tables atop a soft pink table runner, interspersed with candles in those glorious dusky shades. Even the wine coolers were rose gold – attention to detail or what?

Signage and stationery

Another motif throughout the day was neon signage, adding to the fun, modern boho wedding style. Jasmin and Gregg hired three different tongue-in-cheek signs which we placed around the venue for them: we mounted a pink “AYE DO” sign on a black grid wall at the back of the ceremony space, attached the white cursive “Just married” sign to their moongate, and hung another bright pink “Let’s Dance” sign near the    dancefloor.

But this wasn’t the only signage on display! We also worked on the stationery for this modern boho wedding, making sure it oozed cool sophistication at every juncture. Throughout their wedding planning journey, from invites to welcome signs to order of the day to the bar menu and everything in between, we used dusky pink as the main colour. A chunky serif combined with an edgy cursive gave an elegant, traditional combo a modern twist, which we played on further with the addition of thin line motifs. The menus and place cards at each table setting were held together with gold bulldog clips.

A Deep Fried Mars Bar cake (yep, you read that right)

After the delicious meal, Jasmin and Gregg had a surprise for their guests: cocktail hour (name a better surprise…we’ll wait.) The Cowshed Crail’s Roundel acted as the perfect spot for this, which we highlighted with one of our vintage desks as well as a selection of cake stands and box toppers. Here, the newlyweds cut their cake, a jaw-dropping three tier Schillicious creation decorated with artful brushstrokes in those fresh colours. And it didn’t just look delicious, either: wait til you hear the flavours inside. (Are you ready? We don’t think you’re ready. Drumroll please…:) spiced carrot cake, and deep fried Mars Bar cake. (We told you you weren’t ready!)

Fortified with what might just be the most divine wedding cake flavours known to man, Jasmin and Gregg had their first dance in the courtyard outside, surrounded by their loved ones waving sparklers at them. Then, it was time to do as the sign told them, and continue to dance!
